Our design team undertakes the design of foundations to a variety of structures including low rise 0 to multi-storey. We have the expertise to design foundations to structures with more difficult ground conditions or with more specialist requirements.
A proper understanding of ground conditions is essential to good design and we regularly commission and control foundation and ground investigation.
Foundation design for shrinkable clay soils and chalk where chalk solutions are prevalent, are regularly undertaken. We have been commissioned to provide solutions requiring deep pad or piled foundations with reinforced ground beams as well as the more complex cantilever transfer structures or bridge foundations.
Underpinning or other forms of foundation stabilisation can also be commissioned.

We believe it is crucial to have a proper understanding of the ground and foundation conditions to allow a proper and cost efficient design to foundations, structures, ground works, retaining walls and other earth supporting systems. Therefore we commission and control such investigation.
Typically this can include:
Initial visual inspection of the site and surrounding area leading to –
Trial Pit exploration &/or
Hand-augered Boreholes &/or
Shell and auger boreholes &/or
Dynamic Probing.
Radar investigation if appropriate
Insitu testing of the ground for soil strength parameters.
Site investigation would include an appropriate laboratory testing regime to assess ground conditions. Testing of ground conditions with specific reference to contamination can also be carried out. Detailed and concise reports are provided for the sue of the Client as per the brief commissioned either by means of electronic format (pdf file) &/or by post.

We are pleased to provide our Clients with the necessary plans and calculations to carry out their preferred building works, be it an extension(s) to the property or a conversion.
Upon receipt of the required information from the Client’s Architect we will provide a full set of structural plans – drawings, design and detailing, calculations – all as required by the brief.
Our services include submission of the structural information fo the Local Authority for Building Regulations Approval and liaison with all relevant parties.
Our design department can also provide the calculations for ‘one-off’ beam design if requested.

We also offer a wide range of drawing office services including plan printing, photocopying, general administrative formats and small design works.

Our checking engineers provide a fast and steady turnover of work for checking of calculations as required for approval submissions.

Many Clients require a feasibility study prior to final contract and we regularly commission such studies. These may include environmental issues as well as contamination requirements,. Health and Safety issues are also addressed in these studies. Risk assessments can also be provided on request.
